Matt is the founder of Sentient Law, Ltd. and began his legal career as a file clerk for the Honorable Jeff Tomczak, former State’s Attorney of Will County, Illinois. While earning his B.A. at DePaul University, Matt interned at Citizens for Attorney General Lisa Madigan and worked as a clerk at the Law Offices of Parente & Norem, P.C., where he assisted in the litigation of several complex, multimillion dollar medical malpractice, personal injury, products liability, and workers’ compensation claims.

Matt was a Wellgates International Distinguished Scholar during law school and earned his J.D. with honors in just two years. He also clerked at Sweetnam LLC where he assisted with the prosecution of complex class action matters. After obtaining his law license in May 2012, Matt continued working with Sweetnam LLC as Of Counsel.

Matt is a serial entrepreneur, having been involved with several start-ups, he has nearly a decade of experience with digital marketing, software development, and e-commerce. Matt held a provisional patent for a novel business method and mobile device application that appraises elements and compounds based upon real-time market prices.

In 2012, the Sigma Nu Tau Entrepreneurship Honors Society at the Illinois Institute of Technology honored Matt by inducting him as a Charter Entrepreneur Member. Matt has pitched companies at the Chicago Lean Startup Challenge and has volunteered at several business incubators in Chicago. In 2013 Matt met entrepreneur, venture capitalist, and Northwestern University and the University of Chicago Booth School of Business professor Mike Moyer. Mike is the author of Slicing Pie, which provides a framework for entrepreneurs to fund their startups with equity instead of cash. Matt has consulted several entrepreneurs on the tenants of Slicing Pie and is one of a select group of attorneys that have experience with dynamic equity agreements. Matt is also a Member of the Young Entrepreneur Council (YEC) and a Founding Member of the Forbes Legal Council.

Matt formerly managed digital operations for Tribune Companies where he served markets that included both the Los Angeles Times and Chicago Tribune. Matt has a passion for architecture, engineering, and design. He is also General Counsel to the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat.
